Marine fish are rich in mineral salts due to their lifestyle and the way they feed in open water. These minerals are necessary for the growth and development of the main organs of the body, such as the heart, brain, muscles, etc. Marine shrimp, like other aquatic animals (such as fish and lobster), is not an exception to this rule, and about its amazing properties, many studies have been conducted around the world and many articles have been written about it.
Currently, shrimps are sold in the market in two ways: marine shrimp (wild shrimp) and farmed shrimp.
It is obvious that the shrimps that live naturally in open water and use the microorganisms in the sea for their growth, have found unique properties that the value of their nutrients will never be equal to the cultured type.
Differences between marine shrimp and farmed shrimp
1. The veins of the shrimp body
The farmed shrimp has two veins, one behind the back and the other under the belly, but the marine shrimp has only one vein on its back. The vein behind the shrimp is the same as the intestine of the shrimp and the vein under the abdomen is the nerve fiber that separates them during cleaning.
The vein on the back of the shrimp is dull in cultured species, but it is clear and bright in sea shrimp and you have to be very careful to see it.2. Size and size of shrimp
Because the sea shrimp has more opportunity to grow, it is usually seen in larger sizes. But farmed shrimp has a specific growth process and after passing this period, it is harvested and sold on the market. For this reason, farmed shrimps are usually the same size, and this is a way to distinguish them from sea-caught shrimps.
As you can see in the picture below, the reason that the farmed shrimps are the same size is that the shrimps feed together in groups (the type of feeding is the same) and grow together and come out of the pond in a certain period of time. So you can’t see the size difference in them
3. Shrimp body color
Marine shrimp is pale pink or orange, and the cultured type is olive green or grayish green, and its body has a glassy or scaly appearance. What is commonly known among people is that shrimp is known as pink and in most parties they prefer to use sea shrimp because the texture of its meat is consistent, crunchy and tasty. With shrimp, you can cook different seafood according to your and your family’s taste and enjoy eating it. Of course, remember that when cooking shrimp, its valuable nutrients are not lost
4. Shrimp growing place
Wild (marine) shrimps that can be consumed in Iran are only caught in the southern waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman and in all four southern provinces and are consumed on their way to the markets, and they have a great variety of species.
The farmed shrimp is of the Vanami species (scientifically called lithopneusomy), which is not native to Iran and is grown in salt water. These types of shrimps are grown in farms connected to the coast and are grown by seawater that is pumped to the ponds.
5- The price of shrimp
The price of marine shrimp is influenced by the conditions due to domestic fishing in open waters, and the price of farmed shrimp is influenced by global prices. The price of marine shrimp is higher than the farmed type due to its high nutritional value, more difficult catch, excellent taste and many fans.
Similarities between marine shrimp and farmed shrimp
Nutritional value of shrimp
Shrimps are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamins of the B family, including B12 and B3, vitamin D and C, minerals such as magnesium, selenium, zinc, iron, and phosphorus are prominent nutrients found in these tiny organisms.
Considering that the feeding of marine shrimp is from marine organisms, therefore, they will have a higher nutritional value. Of course, it cannot be said that the farmed sample lacks these mineral salts and fatty acids, but the difference between the properties of the sea shrimp and the farmed one is in its quality and body structure according to its lifestyle.
Managers of Saderat Migo Company are well aware of business rules and regulations. First of all, the target market for selling the export type of this product must be determined. If a country catches a significant amount of shrimp from open waters and is able to meet the needs of domestic markets and also meet international markets, it can be said that it will make a significant contribution to income generation and the economic situation.
By studying the statistics and figures recorded about the shrimp import market in different countries, you can understand which of the markets is suitable for selling shrimp.
Another rule that is very important in shrimp export is how to positively negotiate with the customer and carry out legal customs procedures. Usually, foreign customers request a proforma invoice from the exporting country. Preparing a sales invoice requires skill and experience. All transactions and exchanges must be done in English. These tasks in the shrimp export company are the responsibility of the administrative staff.
The correct pricing for the export of this product can attract the opinion of a foreign customer. To be in the market of a foreign country and sell shrimp, you must pay attention to the laws of that country. For example, a company will be more successful in sales if it knows exactly in which countries shrimp feed or special foods with this marine creature are most popular. If you start international marketing from this stage, the probability of success is higher.
How is the pricing in shrimp export?
One of the most important points in shrimp export is correct pricing. The price of shrimp per kilogram is different for different types of shrimp in different qualities. Like other animals, there are different types of shrimp. The price of shrimp is determined based on the species of shrimp; In the sense that bigger shrimps or “king shrimps” are very different from farmed shrimps. Farmed shrimp is different from sea-caught shrimp.
The pricing for shrimp export is determined according to factors such as the type of shrimp, the method of packaging shrimp, changes in the exchange rate, the place where shrimp are grown, and the changes in commercial laws in the country of origin and destination. Having complete information on world prices for shrimp helps companies better offer products to the international market
Shrimps exported from Iran are popular in all countries of the world. A large amount of shrimp is exported from Iran to Southeast Asian countries. Persian Gulf countries and Russia are the two main destinations for shrimp exports from Iran. More than 20 thousand tons of shrimp are sent from Iran to Russia. The amount of income in this way has been very significant for Iran. Therefore, a special investment is made for farmed shrimp in the southern provinces.
As we mentioned above, packaging is very important for shrimp.
Along with the export of fish and other aquatic products, shrimp can become an income-generating idea for the country. If the shrimp farming ponds are developed especially in the southern provinces, the farmed shrimps can be sent to the target countries.
Currency price changes, export and import laws in Iran or other countries strongly affect the export of this aquatic species.
News sources have published that a large amount of farmed shrimp is considered only for sending to other countries, and shrimps that are caught directly from the sea are offered in domestic markets.
One of the most important challenges in shrimp export is the new way of international marketing. In order for Iran to take over more markets, it must increase the volume of production and carry out proper marketing in European countries.
